Frequent errors in stone wall construction include:
- Placing the sides of the stones facing out – this makes for a weak wall
- Allowing for gaps in the wall – makes the wall less safe and less “complete” looking
- Lack of cross joints – each stone should cross over the two stones under it.
- Not keeping it level – small differences will make a very crooked wall by the end!
- Uneven plane (or cap) – makes for an unsightly finish

It all begins with proper footings. Once a foundation is created by removing turf and the construction area is cleared, the next step is putting down the bottom layer of stones that will make up the foundation of the wall. Next, we align each stone properly, horizontal to the direction of the wall, and with the flat sides of the stone facing vertically to achieve the greatest strength. We will then work to add stones using cross joints and checking frequently to ensure that the wall remains level. Finally, we’ll finish off the wall with a well-aligned top plane. Stone Wall Repair

We generally work in sections of 10 to 20 feet in length, rebuilding each before starting on the next. The process involves stripping out the old stones, sorting them, and then reusing them to rebuild. All stones will be removed down to the foundational dirt. All roots and debris that may have been the culprit in damaging your wall will be removed before the wall is rebuilt.
